The Lions Karoo to Coast Mountain Bike Challenge, held in September 2024, was once again a memorable event. However, it saw a slightly lower turnout than previous years, with around 1,700 riders taking on the demanding 100km route from Uniondale to Knysna. Despite the reduced number of participants, those who did take part were treated to an exceptional ride through the iconic Prince Alfred’s Pass, showcasing the rugged beauty of the Karoo and lush coastal landscapes.
The smaller field did not dampen the spirit of the event. Riders praised the well-organized race and perfect conditions, with cool weather and clear skies for an enjoyable ride. The Lions Clubs of Uniondale and Knysna ensured that the event ran smoothly, providing top-notch support and safety throughout the challenging course.
As in previous years, the proceeds from the race went towards local charities, continuing the event’s tradition of giving back to the community. Participants were enthusiastic about the scenic route and the warm reception from locals along the way.
The 2024 edition may have seen fewer riders, but it maintained its reputation as one of South Africa’s premier mountain biking events, offering a rewarding and unforgettable experience for all who took part.
